Originally a small, sister site for fans of Dante’s Cove, The Dante Beacon fansite is now incorporated into The Liberty Musings.

Set far off on an exotic island that was once the playground for the wealthiest elite of the world, Dante’s Cove holds many secrets, strange powers, beautiful people and gorgeous scenery.

It’s been described as a cross of many different shows, but to say it’s a mix of Dark Shadows and Melrose Place would be the most accurate. At the crux of the show is Ambrosius Vallin who was cursed by a witch for not loving her. After nearly two hundred years he was set free by the kiss of a young man who becomes his obsession – the Dark Shadows aspect in a gay interpretation of Barnabas Collins. In Melrose Place fashion, the action in the present centers around a group of people living at the Hotel Dante which is owned by Grace Neville, the witch herself – think apartment building and Amanda Woodward.

Dante’s Cove is pure drama and is not afraid to be a little over the top. It’s the camp and its ability to not take itself too seriously that endears you to it just as with Dark Shadows in the 1960s. Dark Shadows was a supernatural cult success and Dante’s Cove is following in its footsteps. By retooling the classic gothic drama with gay characters and exotic scenery that are magically woven around intrigue and mysticism, Here! has accomplished what no other network or film studio has done.
