About

Can a blog be fickle? I originally started it as a dream journal in 2004 and then repurposed it the following year to post some thoughts on ‘Queer As Folk.’ Digging into the deeper meaning of the show and character motivation become heavy and intense as I uncovered a lot of personal relevance. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking now, but I’m not a club boy and have never done drugs. I’m just an average 41-year-old gay guy who likes to garden, cook, craft, entertain and shop. Yes my life’s aspiration is to be Martha Stewart.

As for ‘Queer As Folk,’ Victoria Winters (from ‘Dark Shadows’) says it best in that it opened up to me “a world I’ve never known, with people I’ve never met.” It led me to accepting my own sexuality and allowed me to see that there really are other people like me. For the first time I felt I wasn’t alone and isolated in a hermitage perched on the side of a wooded hill.

That liberation transformed the blog into the random musings and dreams (with a healthy dose of entertainment dish) that it is today. Thusly, The Liberty Musings is not only an homage to ‘Queer As Folk’s’ Liberty Avenue for the show’s significance, but an ode to the process of learning and accepting who you are.

About the Header Image
Could there be any better visualization of The Muses for a gay man than three beautiful men making their way into the surf on a pristine beach? I think not! The Three Muses of ancient Greek mythology honored at Delphi were Voice, Occasion and Memory. How fitting too that these water nymphs looked to Apollo as their leader, a god known to be in love with women and men equally.
